Piurek & Associates holds 3nd Annual Community Appreciation Luncheon for clients, vendors and communities supportors. The luncheon was in Phoenix, Arizona at the Irish Cultural Center. The theme this year was family favorites. Larry Prather, Alice Prather's husband cooked the best barbeque ever. Alice made her famous cole slaw. Jeff cooked up veggie stroganoff, an old favorite of his children, adapted through the years. Zohreh mixed up a mediterranean salad, and Karrie Steving made a wonderful spinach dip. Sally Lara showed her support by bringing chulapas with all the fixings. For a great finish, Elaine Groppenbacher made homemade apple pies. Once again, we were filled with gratitude for all your support and encouragement. Thank you for making it possible for us to be here. We couldn't do it without you!

Elaine Groppenbacher of Piurek & Associates and Toni Issadore presented at the 19th Statewide Child Abuse Prevention Conference held at the Mesa Convention Center, January 17-18, 2008. Elaine and Toni facilitated a candid conversation about the “isms” people have regarding children and adolescents with complex histories, needs and mental health challenges. The views we hold, the stance we take and our responses can create either a burden of limitation or a future of opportunities. These influence our day-to-day work with youth, families, and our colleagues. Elaine and Toni, parent-professional presenters, led a candid & practical exploration of how and why our views develop, how to increase awareness, and keep biases in check so we can achieve a positive, inclusive, relationship-based practice with people who have mental health challenges.
