  • January 18, 2008. Elaine Groppenbacher of Piurek & Associates and Toni Issadore presented at the 19th Statewide Child Abuse Prevention Conference held at the Mesa Convention Center, January 17-18, 2008. Elaine and Toni facilitated a candid conversation about the “isms” people have regarding children and adolescents with complex histories, needs and mental health challenges. The views we hold, the stance we take and our responses can create either a burden of limitation or a future of opportunities. These influence our day-to-day work with youth, families, and our colleagues. Elaine and Toni, parent-professional presenters, led a candid & practical exploration of how and why our views develop, how to increase awareness, and keep biases in check so we can achieve a positive, inclusive, relationship-based practice with people who have mental health challenges. Visit the Prevent Child Abuse Arizona web site.
